Inspired by our love of adventure sports and our passion to protect the planet, we established The Extreme Hangout as the sustainability impact platform giving young people a voice and drive environmental action.
Launched in 2021 The EXTREME Hangout became a leading fringe event at COP26 in Glasgow. We took over a repurposed ferry on the River Clyde, created a hub and delivered 11 days of inspiring conferences. Over 6000 people came to hear and be motivated by more than 200 incredible speakers from Bear Grylls to Lily Cole, all of which delivered 5 million video impressions off the live stream and video on demand service.
Today young and underrepresented people want their voices heard and have little opportunity to participate in formal proceedings. EXTREME made it its mission to give them a seat at the table and a platform where they could share their concerns and opinions. Building on the success at Glasgow and working through sport we are rolling out an ambitious programme with the goal to deliver 50 impact events in 50 locations over the next 5 years. The annual Extreme Hangout programme is part of an engagement plan to drive climate action through 3 areas:
The Extreme Hangout at COP - Our major annual event will be held at COP every year, live-streamed globally. Our past COP events and panel discussions can be viewed on The Extreme Hangout website.
The global event series, run in city, beach and mountain locations around the world in partnership with local Ted X event organisers, with the objective to connect, engage and amplify local voices and drive local action.
Our video and voice podcast series for year-round engagement and available on multiple platforms.
With The EXTREME Hangout, we want to engage and inspire young people, harness the power of sport, work collaboratively with amazing partners who are thinking outside the box and amplify the volume of any one doing climate action work.
THE EXTREME HANGOUT AT COP27
The EXTREME Hangout at COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh, represented a coming together and celebration of all those with a shared passion for the healthy recovery of our natural world.
From the 8-11th November 2022 we hosted dynamic and inspirational youth-led talks and panels, networking events, snorkelling and yoga sessions in our tented pavilion by the beach, overlooking the Red Sea and co located alongside the New York Times Climate Hub.
Our panel discussions are still accessible on The Extreme Hangout site on our Live Catch-Up page. Here you can also find out about our future events, our partners, our team and how you could get involved.

WHAT IS COP28?
For the past 27 years the United Nations has brought together almost every country on earth for global climate summits, called COPs (Conference of the Parties). In the time since the first ever COP in Berlin in 1995, climate change has transformed from being a fringe issue to a global crisis.
The 28th COP will be hosted by Dubai in the United Arab Emirates at the Dubai Expo City tentatively from the 30th November to the 12th December 2023. With an expected attendance of over 80,000 delegates including 140 heads of state and government and over 5000 media professionals, COP28 carries high expectations to drive vital and urgent action for the future of our planet.
