EXTREME TAKES ON DAKAR SAUDI ARABIA

Updated: Apr 30, 2020

The Dakar rally is being held in Saudi Arabia for the first time, being dubbed the third chapter after seeing rallies competing initially in Africa and most recently South America.

EXTREME is immensely proud and pleased to be supporting athletes Yasir Seaidan, Abdulmajeed Al Khulaifi, Mishal Al Ghanim, Benjamin Melot, Thomas Bell, David McBride and David Mabbs in the 2020 rally.

Starting with local Saudi participants, EXTREME is supporting ‘Race World Team’, with Yasir Seaidan driving his MINI X-Raid #324 and aiming for a top ten finish although this is his first Dakar. We then have Abdulmajeed Al Khulaif on his Yamaha Quad Bike #275; again this is his inaugural Dakar but with local experience he is aiming to finish high in his quad category. Our final local athlete is Mishal Al Ganim KTM, riding number #70 in the bike category - a keen outdoor adventure athlete who knows no limits.

In addition, EXTREME is backing three UAE local teams which have vast experience in the UAE desert, including the Sabertooth Motoring Adventure Team with Tom Bell driving and Patrick McMullen as co-driver. The teammates are both British and Dakar heroes who are on their second outing at the Dakar; driving their Nissan Navara #342, they hope to be finishing amongst the top 20 teams in their very competitive car. We then have UAE-based British veterans David McBride and David Mabbs, #147 & #148 respectively, who are competing in the malle moto class where riders are competing without any outside assistance. Last but not least, Benjamin Melot from France is riding his KTM #39. Benjamin was previously part of a rally service crew for 5 years before progressing to follow his own dreams to compete in the Dakar in 2018 and finishing 21st in 2019.

Extreme is running media coverage on its media platforms for all teams and the Dakar, delivering added value for the series, the teams and sponsors alike. With this being the first Dakar in Saudi Arabia, this is uncharted territory for most teams. Although the Saudi teams don’t have a vast amount of experience on the world stage, they have a clear advantage in knowing the local landscape which has been truly stunning thus far.

The rally marks yet another milestone for Saudi Arabia as a nation and shows the importance the Kingdom has placed on sports and in particular the action and adventure category. EXTREME’s senior management team will be at the final of the event at Qiddiya, south of Riyadh, and promises to bring you all the latest updates from their teams, so be sure to follow their Facebook and Instagram.
