Inspired by our love of adventure sports and our passion to protect the planet, we established The Extreme Hangout as a climate action platform giving young people a voice and to drive environmental action. We are now looking for a brilliant individual who will manage and lead the roll out of this important initiative, you will be passionate and committed to sustainability and driving environmental action, with a strong events operational and management skill set you will be comfortable working with multiple stakeholders and have the confidence to drive and build the whole foundation forward.

Amber Nuttall the sustainability manager at Extreme International, had the idea and vision for The EXTREME Hangout and it was launched at COP26 in Glasgow, and it became one of the leading fringe events. We took over a repurposed ferry on the River Clyde, close to the main action, where we ran an 11-day youth conference and hub with over 200 high profile speakers, 5000 visitor and 5 million video impressions. For a look at what we did at COP26 please find here Extreme Hangout at COP26 Video.

The Global Plan

With the EXTREME Hangout, we want to engage and inspire young people, harness the power of sport, champion actions worth taking, work collaboratively with and connect amazing partners who are thinking outside the box and amplify the volume of all doing climate action work. With this initiative we are looking to find the gears to turn the cogs to amplify the volume to drive massive behavioural change. Based on this and building on the success at Glasgow we have just onboarded PWC as a global partner and are now rolling out an ambitious programme with the goal to deliver 50 local impact events in 50 locations over the next 5 years. The annual Extreme Hangout programme is part of an engagement plan to drive climate action through 3 areas:

1) The Extreme Hangout at COP - Our major annual event will be held at COP every year, live-streamed globally. 2) The global event series is set to run in city, beach, and mountain locations around the world in partnership with local Ted X event organisers, with the objective to  connect, engage and amplify local voices and drive local action. 3) The Extreme Hangout video and voice podcast series for year-round engagement and available on multiple platforms.

This year The Extreme Hangout at COP27 will run from the 8-11 November 2022 and be located at the Park Regency Hotel, Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. This time we are in a tented pavilion by the beach, overlooking the Red Sea and co located alongside the New York Times Climate Hub. Join us live or via the live stream for dynamic and inspirational youth-led talks and panels, networking, paddle boarding, snorkelling, yoga and much, much more!
